MY CULTURE
Written by Kato Hammond

Deep down up in the city where the soldiers are blessed
where all the vets passed as they took the test
There's a knocking in the tree tops all day long
A hoppin and a boppin and a battling strong
A knock knock tapping on the window - head flow
Bouncing from the left to the right
The beating is long - the pressure is strong
The system's overflowing - what is going on
Then out steps a brother who's soul was true
His heart felt the glory, but then wouldn't you
Get real siced if you had that beat
That kept the people rocking every day of the week
And now I'm in the mind I will never ever see
Another other vision like delivered to me
I'm a slave to the rhythm cause it's got my soul
And I'm a native to the beat that keeps it in control
Bang the drum slowly & crash the dome
And Let me beat up on some more til it's time to go home

Action livin is the life I'm givin myself, cause I plan on winning.
Not like the others who are livin off their brothers,
Trying to make a dollar out of fifteen cents.
I'm a man who studies about the golden rule,
You gotta get smart just to be real cool.
You see, a man in the land without a plan in his hand
Is like a rocket with no fule, can't you understand.
A tip of the top is what I bring this from
A silence in the corner standing second to none
I loosen up my belt and let out a rhyme
Grab my guitar, cause it's about that time
To step into a puddle of a fabulous mix
And reach into my pocket for a bag of tricks
Can you dig it?
Hey, can you dig it now?

---------

A sister once asked me 'how can you do it?
I just gave her a smile, cause there's really nothin to it
It's all about the rhythm, it's all about the soul
It's all about knowing which way to go
You see Life and livin and lovin is fun
I know you dream about it baby, and I am the one
who cares about the way that you're wearing your smile
Don't rush a bit - gonna be here a while
Get in tuned with the rhythm - The rhythm is our thing
Inner city groovin with a nubian swing
It's a beautiful thing and it's plain to see
These are the facts & the facts are on reality
And so I rely on the riches of my blackness
Facts are in my culture & my culture is what attract this
Consciousness and my awareness
You should see this
you won't believe this

-------

Intimidated by the concepts constructed by fools
Established justification in the public schools
The system's overflowing in poverty's song
The light has blown out - but then it's never been on
One more lesson that needs to be learned
Never count the cheks before they are earned
I was raised on the backside of shooting the breeze
Feet on my ankles to stay off of my knees
Tasted the tease - smelled the cheese
Decided on the journey in the sticker bride trees
Reached into my back pack - digging for light
Came out with the dark, cause my shit wasn't tight
Then on the third branch I noticed the sun
Destined on my journey as the chosen one
Keep a pin & pad on my right back side
Scaled the fourth branch & then hitched a ride

-------

Rode a few blocks on the back of a snake
Learned my lesson - though the mission was fake
I was thrown on the branch at the tip of a thorn
Broke my left ankle and my hurt was torn
Put on a new shirt - put my foot in a cast
Cause I refuse to lose until I wax that ass
And that's the main reason why I'm here today
More love for my culture - you can't keep me away
It's GoGo a thing that make your body swing
The past 40 years I've been doing my thing
Feeling the highs - and feeling the lows
But love every part from my head to my toes
Wearing my clothes
And everybody knows
The choices I chose
The Yes and the No's
The Joe's and the Moe's
The Friends and the foes
And that's just the way my story goes

-------------------

And I'm loving every minute of it
(Loving every minute of it)

I'm just loving every minute of it
(Loving every minute of it)

I'm loving every minute of it
(Loving every minute of it)

I'm just loving every minute of it
(Loving every minute of it)
